At the last solo exhibition at Gallery IDF in 2008, Asano's " 生神(IKIGAMI)" has shown his various distinctive techniques which are combined traditional techniques with modern technology that evolved over time through the restoration works of Buddha statues and styles of expression that is inspired by his beloved combative sports. For this exhibition, appropriately entitled 朋友, he has created the new statue "朋友(Hou Yu)," which means a lifelong friend in English. The motif of this new wooden statue from Nioh(仁王), the two Deva Kings, which are two wrath-filled and muscular guardians of the Buddha, standing today at the entrance of many Buddhist temples in China, Japan and Korea in the form of frightening wrestler-like statues. About why he creates it, he says that the fact he is attracted by the two Deva Kings is that they are always a pair rather than their distinctive presence as a guardian of the Buddha. Also, Asano says that at the same time he yearns for having a lifelong friend like the two Deva Kings, he envies them.
